ahhh… little ship

Often when reading one thing, another comes to mind.  Such was the case with today’s ELCA World Hunger devotion, a poem representing the voice of the heart of a 6-year-old child living with HIV and AIDS.

Ahhh … little ship

You’re getting away from me

When will you come and pass before me?

Because I want to wait for you here, in this place.

Please … tell me when you will come.

~Sister Nurhayati Silalahi, Huria Kristen Batak Protestan, Indonesia

And I saw the river over which every soul must pass to reach the kingdom of heaven and the name of that river was suffering; and I saw the boat which carries souls across the river and the name of that boat was love.

~St. John of the Cross
